Beyond White: How Hotels Use Coloured Napkins and Table Linen to Transform a Room
Walk into a modern Indian banquet hall during wedding season and you will rarely see an all-white room. Champagne runners, deep maroon napkins, gold-edged cloths - colour has become one of the fastest ways for hotels and restaurants to change the personality of a dining space without changing the furniture.
Why white remains the default
White mercerised cotton damask dominates hotel dining for practical reasons: it can be bleached, it signals cleanliness instantly, and it never clashes with a centrepiece. Every property should hold a full white par before experimenting with colour.
Where colour earns its place
Coloured napkins are the lowest-risk entry point. A single coloured satin band napkin on a white cloth can carry a wedding theme, a festive promotion, or a brand colour - and when the event ends, the room returns to white without replacing the cloths.
For signature restaurants and lounges, full coloured cloths in deep tones - maroon, forest green, charcoal - create an intimate mood that white cannot. Build a small trial par first - one event's worth - and run it through twenty wash cycles before committing to a full order.
A practical colour strategy
